How do I know where I will be living?

Your housing assignment will be available in the WU Housing portal after August 5, 2024.  This is where you can see what hall and room you have been placed in.

On move in day, where do I go first?

Depending on where you will be living, you will need to go to one of three places.  If you’re living in the:

  1. Baxter Community – Enter the driveway east of Ford Hall off of State Street, just after the crosswalk across from the Oregon Supreme Court building.
  2. Matthews Community – Enter into the Matthews parking lot off 12th Street just north of the skybridge that crosses over the street.
  3. Kaneko Commons – On 12th Street, turn at the crosswalk onto Mill Street (the skybridge is above you). Take your first right into the Kaneko Commons half circle driveway.

As you pull into your designated area, you will be greeted by community members to help unload your car, and aim you in the right direction to get your key and identification. The community members will have rosters and will know where your assigned room is.  They will make sure your items get to your room safely.

Where do I get my key and ID?

If you are living in either the Baxter or Matthews Communities, you will arrive during your check-in time slot and follow the signs to make your way to the lawn outside of the housing office. This is where you will sign your key out and get other important information.

If you are living in Kaneko Commons, you will arrive during your check-in time slot and follow the signs at the circle driveway through the T wing of the complex, across the yard and into Kaneko Commons.  This is where you will sign your key out and get other important information.

Parking is limited, and new students and families will be eager to get where they need to be. Please ask anyone accompanying you to wait in the car during check-in.  After you get your key you will receive instructions on where your building is, where to park, and where to enter your building and get to your room.

The office of Residence Life and Housing is located in the Matthews Academic Commons, between Matthews Hall and Cascadia House. Our staff will be close by to answer any questions and unravel any challenge that may occur.

For information on what items you should consider bringing to campus, please visit our "What to Bring" webpage.

When can I arrive to campus?

Most students will arrive on the assigned new student move in date, Wednesday, August 21, 2024.  Athletics and Jump Start, along with other approved activities, will move in earlier and are assigned a move in date.  Even though these programs are approved for early arrival, we ask students taking part in them to complete an early arrival application found in the WU Housing portal. Completing this application will assure your room and housing packet are ready for you on your move in date. The early arrival application will be open to students  after June 17, 2024.   If you desire to move in prior to your approved date, additional approval is necessary, and a fee of $100 per night (prior to your approved arrival date) will be assessed and charged to your student account.  Students will not be allowed to move in early on August 20, 2024
