Willamette University policy requires that all computers on the campus network have up-to-date antivirus software installed, updated and running.
University-owned computers currently run Sophos Antivirus, a fully-modernized AV solution with Artificial Intelligence for protection against viruses, malware, and many of the threats encountered online and while using cloud-based storage and applications. WITS takes care of it all, so there's no need for you to update or install anything.
Personally-owned computers can run a FREE version of Sophos recommended for systems running Windows or MacOS. The free version is perfectly adequate but if you desire more advanced protection, a purchase option directly from Sophos is available. If you'd like to install it, or just want to know more, click the link below!
*** NOTE!: Having more than one antivirus program active on your computer may result in serious performance problems. Uninstall other AV software (MalwareBytes, Symantec, Norton, Kaspersky, etc.) as soon as you have your desired AV solution up and running.
Windows Defender (included with Windows) will automatically disable itself once a new AV application is installed, there is no need to uninstall it. Sophos and MalwareBytes are incompatible, be SURE to uninstall MalwareBytes before installing Sophos on your personally owned Windows computer.
