"Art Potpourri," Deanna White, Solveig Holmquist [Virginia Vanderbilt], ZOOM
Deanna White holmquist_solveig.jpgThis hour will be shared by two ICL members, Deanna White and Solveig Holmquist. Deanna will begin with one of her favorite artists, Andy Goldsworthy, a British sculptor, photographer and artist who creates unique, transient art installations with elements from nature made from ice, rocks, mud, sticks and flower petals. He has also created permanent installations such as the Holocaust memorial "Garden of Stones". His work will delight you with their impermanence and beauty. Our second part of the hour will have Solveig introduce us to Eric Gill (1882-1940). Eric was perhaps the greatest English artist-craftsman of the twentieth century: a typographer and letter cutter of genius, and a master in the art of sculpture and wood-engraving. If you have chosen Gill Sans for your font, or marveled at the Stations of the Cross in London's Westminster Cathedral, you've seen his work. He also led a highly controversial patriarchal commune, the details of which are blush-worthy.

Solveig (2012) us best known for her presentations on music. Today she will present a talk on an outstanding artisan. Deanna White (2010) is a popular and outstanding artist in her own right. She has provided presentations on art during her tenure with ICL.
