Ken AshThis lecture involves fictional monsters of literature and cinema and compares them to the real monsters who have, and still do, walk among us. The lecture delves into history and involves a bit or moralizing. It should entertain those who like the presenter are emotionally stuck at the age of 13.

"Era of Mega Fires ," Paul Hessburg [Dru Johnson], ZOOM
Paul Hessburg Paul Hessburg presents a twenty minute video on forest management as one solution to Mega Fires. His theory is not accepted by all but is widely favored as a positive approach. The destruction caused by wildfires is so devastating to wildlife and there are many rescue groups that participate and protect endangered species. The koalas of Australia are recognized as one of Australia's favorite animal. We will see a rescue group hard at work to save the wounded and burned innocent victims.

Paul Hessburg is a landscape ecologist and wildfire scientist. He holds a PhD from Oregon State University and a BS from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Hassburg has been studying large landscapes for 41 years. He has submitted over 200 peer-reviewed research articles and is a courtesy full professor at the University of Washington, Oregon State University, Washington State University and the University of Idaho.

"Blue Mountains Koala Project," Kellie Leigh [Judy Gram], ZOOM
Dr. Kellie Leigh The devastating megafires in Australia in 2019-20 were the worst fires in Australian history with almost 3 billion animals impacted by the fires. Dr. Leigh, in an address to the Wildlife Conservation Network, describes how her team and a host of volunteers rushed to save koalas from the fires that were quickly approaching their habitat.

Dr. Kellie Leigh, Executive Director of Science for Wildlife, in her work with the Blue Mountains Koala Project includes applied research and building partnerships with land managers, communities and volunteers to ensure that on-ground conservation action is as effective as can be.

"Mindful Aging: Practices to Feel Young at Every Age," Leah Burkhart [GwenEllyn Anderson], ZOOM
Leah BurkhartThere is nothing that says "aging" needs to be a negative thing. It's a sign of your prowess. Your strength. You are a survivor. Unfortunately, many conversations about aging often use disempowering language. In this presentation, you will learn about the art of growing better as you grow older. We will cover strategies healthy centenarians commonly integrate in their lives (nutrition, stress management, and talk about how to implement it in your life in a way that looks like you.

Leah Burkhart is a Health Educator with a Master's degree in health education and nutrition. She's also a certified life coach ith the International Coaching Federation (ICF), and certified awellness coach with the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaches (NBHWC). She currently works as a health educator at the Community Health Education Center at Salem Health Hospital. When she's not busy educating individuals or groups on making healthy lifestyle changes, you can find her hiking with her pup, or curled up with her cat and a good book.

Dru Johnson The first part of this presentation will be an introduction to the Mar's landing of the rover Perseverence that will be occurring today at approximately 1:00 PM. along with a helicopter named Ingenuity. Mars is a busy place as it now has an United Arab Emerites placing it's spacecraft in orbit, the very first for that country. The second part will feature a NASA documentary featuring the New Horizon spacecraft to achieve the escape velocity to travel beyond our solar system, travelling through the Kuiper Belt, to Ultima Thule. During this presentation we will see collaboration and adaptation shown by the cooperation of many agencies and countries to achieve remarkable discoveries.

Dru Johnson has been an ICL member since 2018. Currently Co-Director of the ICL Curriculum Committee, her goal is to introduce science as a pursuit to gain an understanding of our natural world through discovery.

Tiffany ConklinICL member Wayne Wallace has been interested in street art for almost a decade. He has become quite knowledgeable about street art in Oregon and has led many street art walks in various cities in the Willamette Valley. When Wayne began his exploration of street art, it was more common in Eugene/Springfield, but by 2015 street art was becoming more common in Portland due, in no small part, to the Portland Street Art Alliance and it has expanded in a near exponential manner ever since.

Tiffany Conklin is the Executive Director of the Portland Street Art Alliance, a non-profit organization in Portland. Tiffany has documented street and graffiti art in Portland and around the world since 2006. She holds a Bachelors in Cultursal Anthropology and Sociology, and completed a Masters of Urban Studies at Portland State University in 2011, with a focus on graffiti, ideology, and the politics of public space.

"Indigenous Art & Artists at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art: A History of Collaboration," Rebecca Dobkins [Toni Petersen], ZOOM
Rebecca DobkinsIn the first hour, Rebecca Dobkins will discuss the history of the Native American art collection at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art, as well as trace the collaborations the museum has had with indigenous artists from New Zealand to Oregon to Alaska. In addition to discussing past projects, Professor Dobkins will look ahead to the future of collections and exhibitions.

Rebecca Dobkins is a Professor of Anthropology at Willamette University, serving in that capacity since 1996. Before joining the faculty, Rebecca worked as a researcher at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History. As a curator at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art, Dobkins has organized exhibitions of Native American art that have toured nationally and internationally. She is the faculty supervisor for the Chemawa Indian School-Willamette University Partnership Program. She holds a Ph.D. Anthropology, University of California, Berkeley, 1995. M.A. English, University of California, Berkeley, 1990, and a B.A. Women's Studies, Summa cum laude, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, 1983.
