Our Russian Studies Minor

Enhance your education and gain in-demand skills with our Russian program. Develop a deep understanding of the experiences and customs of other people. Our minor in Russian Studies will prepare you to thrive in an interconnected world.

Curriculum

Enrich your education by building your knowledge of Russian culture. Minor program requirements cover a range of topics. Take language courses, explore Russian literature and history from the tsarist era, Soviet Union, and current day, and consider the influence of Russian culture on the world at large.

  • RUSS 333 Russian Civilization and Culture

    Study the geography, history, economics, and the chronological development of Russian culture and ideas. In this course, oral and written reports will be presented in Russian.

  • RUSS 330 Advanced Russian Grammar: Stylistics and Translation

    Learn about the grammar and devices commonly used in a variety of genres of fiction and nonfiction texts. Discover how communication styles define texts and aspects of cultural interaction. Consider challenges that come with translating such texts and examine aspects of translation theory.

Program Requirements

Students pursuing a Russian minor will need to complete 20 semester hours in Russian courses. These courses are comprised of Elementary Russian II and four additional RUSS courses, at least two of which are at the 300-level or above.

Students can take History of Modern Russia or Topics in Economic Inquiry: From Plan to Market: The Evolution of the Russian Economy from Stalin to Putin to replace a RUSS elective.
