Fairweather Fellows Scholarship and Experience Program

The Fairweather Fellows Scholarship and Experience Program provides incoming first-year students with scholarships and academic support activities to succeed as future computing and data science scholars and leaders.

Fairweather Fellows receive an annual scholarship of up to $10,000 per year for four years, which may be combined with additional merit aid. Exceptional students may receive additional scholarship funds. Fellows complete one paid summer experience (up to $4,000) in the form of an internship or research with a faculty mentor. In addition, Fellows have priority access to Computing & Data Science events such as guest lectures with industry professionals, semesterly lunch with the Dean, access to graduate-level professional development activities, and expert career advising.

Requirements

  • To be considered for the Fairweather Fellows program, students must have at least a 3.0 high school GPA, apply to Willamette by the February 1 regular decision deadline.
  • Selected students are not required to declare a major in Computer Science or Data Science. Fellows may declare a major in any field and maintain their scholarship and summer experience funding.

About the Gift

Made possible by an anonymous gift of two alumni donors, the scholarship and program are named for a mountain in Alaska that holds significance for the family.
