WU important student policies, resources and information

by Abbas Hill, Dean of Students for Community Care and Inclusion,

Welcome to the 2021-22 academic year!

We hope this message reaches you in the best of spirits as we begin the semester in community with one another. We’d like to take this time to direct you to some important information, policies and resources.

First, Willamette University is dedicated to student learning both in and out of the classroom. Inherent in this commitment is the expectation that students act in accordance with shared community values and principles aimed at creating vibrant learning communities. These expectations can be found in the Student Code of Conduct posted on the Division of Student Affairs website. The Student Code of Conduct also outlines the conduct review process and applies to all Willamette University students, whether residing on or off campus.

Second, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal law that prohibits sex and gender discrimination within higher education. The Sexual Misconduct Policy for students includes specific information about behaviors that fall under Title IX. The Not Alone website and the Sexual Misconduct and Title IX website provide additional information and resources.

Third, in compliance with the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, you will find the university Alcohol and Drug Abuse Policy and resources located on the university policies website. This policy statement includes the impact of alcohol and drug abuse, resources and the Alcohol on Campus and at University Events policy. Specific details about alcoholic beverage violations and controlled substance and/or drug violations are located in the Student Code of Conduct.

If you have questions or concerns about student responsibilities and expectations, or any of the information in the student code of conduct or university policies website, please contact the Office of Student Affairs at student-affairs-office@willamette.edu or at 503-370-6447.

We are wishing you all the very best this academic year.
