Executive Functioning Applications

There are a variety of assistive technology aids available to support executive functioning. The following selections are courtesy of Augsburg College's CLASS office page. These applications can be used on a variety of platforms (phones, tablets, computers) and are available for Windows, Mac, and Android operating systems.

Executive Functioning Applications:

  • Mind Mapping & Brainstorming
    • A variety of apps that are free to low cost that assist in creating and using mind maps as well as assisting with brainstorming ideas.
  • Study Skills & Aids
    • Free to low cost apps that assist in improving study skills and provides a variety of aids to help in studying, from games to quizzes to flashcards and more.
  • Organization & Task Management
    • Apps created to assist in improving time management and organization, whether it is keeping track of homework, assignments, or even a grocery list!
  • Time Management & Distraction Free
    • Various apps that assist in time management by helping you stay on task and lower unnecessary distractions--whether it is blocking distracting websites, using a combination of work time and break time, setting timers, or tracking what you are doing both during and away from your homework.
  • Research Tools
    • Apps that help you during all phases of a research assignment, from tracking start and due dates, creating citations, collecting information, making notes, and more.
  • Stress Management & Relaxation
    • Aiming to assist in managing the stress that comes with school work plus providing ways to find relaxation in the midst of that stress, these apps offer different ways to help wind down and stay focused when you need it most.
  • Communication
    • A variety of apps that assist in improving communication, be it around self-advocacy, dealing with non-verbal customs and rules, or other barriers to communicating to and with others.
  • Built-in Accessibility
    • Windows and Mac have built-in accessibility features, including text-to-speech, magnification, speech-to-text, adjustable settings, and more.
