Apply to be a mentor for first-gen, scholars of color

Contact: Olivia Munoz

We're looking for professional staff to serve as mentors for Ohana Program students.

Call for mentors for the 2022 Ohana Program. This long-running pre-orientation program allows new first-generation college students and students of color the opportunity to connect, build community, and start their journey at Willamette full of support. These scholars often go on to other leadership positions at Willamette and grow into being some of our most superstar students.

The Professional Staff Mentor role will serve in a support capacity as Ohana participants navigate their first year. We are looking for full-time Willamette employees based at the Salem campus. If you do not have much student interaction built into your day-to-day role, consider becoming a mentor. We would especially love to hear from staff who share identities similar to the participants but all are welcome to apply.

Mentors will provide knowledge about campus resources, be a success advocate, and most of all, serve as a compassionate listening ear for these excited scholars. You bring the heart, we can help with info and resources.

Please hold Thursday, Aug. 11, at 12 p.m. noon for a mentor orientation. We may not need all mentors but will confirm. Thank you for considering this important role!
